Novice lady from Orange County, CA. Alyssa Pereslete performed a beautiful short program at the Gletscher Cup International held in Switzerland. Her music is strong and contemporary so we wanted a sleek and sophisticated look. Her line and form work perfectly with this costume which features a high neckline, multiple jewelled sleeve cutouts, brilliant turquoise appliques in artfully cut shapes, an exceptionally deep keyhole opening in back, as well as the standard Jan Longmire decoration consisting, as always, of over the top hand beading and a strong determination to apply crystals to the limit. Sasha Headlines Stars on Ice!

My most recent costume for Sasha is now turning up in cities across the US on this year’s Stars on Ice Tour. This beautiful photo taken by Tina Tyan was shot at the San Jose performance. Sasha skates to “Imagine” and, if reviews are accurate, the number is mesmerizing. As always Sasha and I go for maximum impact. This costume is shade dyed from brilliant turquoise at the top, through royal..ultramarine..violet..and finally fuschia at the skirt hem. The entire dress is decorated, straps to hem, with thousands of crystals, bugles, iridescent sequins and glass beads in dozens of different colors. One reviewer in Spokane called the costume “unforgettable”! Of course Sasha and I are already in discussion for her next dress. She’s always a pleasure to work with.

Congratulations to Senior Pair Katie Beriau and Alex Merritt on a beautiful performance at US Nationals. This costume set, designed for their long program, and set to the music of Kodaly’s Peacock Suite, fit their skating style which is softly romantic with a bit of edge.

Meet Lucy who lives in the United Kingdom and has been skating since she could barely walk. I’ve enjoyed costuming Lucy for several years. Her mom and I have a great long distance working relationship so not only do I get to send this little skating pixie a new dress, or as shown here a unitard designed for her Beetlejuice program, every so often, but I get competition reports and great photos, usually showing a small Lucy holding a large trophy. One of my special Rink Ratz!

Sasha Cohen, along with a group of skating’s elite performers, joined forces with top musical guests and TV celebrities to present an evening of long overdue tribute to the women who have survived cancer and their lost sisters who may have with accurate diagnosis and treatment. I was privileged to be a guest in the audience and to listen to the accounts of lonliness and courage that these survivors shared. I felt honored to be the costume provider for Sasha as she participated in the performance. She was, as always, beautiful and her skating has deepened in expression and exquisiteness of line and flow. I hope the televised event will be seen by women across the country for the great tribute the stars paid to cancer survivors and, more importantly, to make people aware of the critical need to address women’s healthcare issues. The cancer survivors motto, “You are not alone”, has got to be more than just words!
